3 Keys to Driving the Ball an Extra 30 Yards

Let’s face it, everyone wants to drive the golf ball farther. We all want to be able to go for par 5’s in two or have short iron shots into every par 4. The difference between wanting to do it and actually doing it involves three tips. If you truly want to drive the ball 30 yards farther, read and follow the rest of this article.

1: Increase Your Clubhead Speed

The most basic tip to increase driver distance drastically is to increase clubhead speed. If you look at practically all of the long hitters on the PGA Tour these days, everyone one of them has a high swing speed. So how to you increase swing speed then? There are two things you can do. First, turn the upper body more on the backswing. This will allow you to coil up more, giving you extra energy on the downswing to hit the ball further. Second, when you go through the downswing keep the right shoulder (for right handed golfers) still thru impact until you have hit the ball. The energy goes from you upper body through your arms and into the club, and if your upper body is ahead of the club that means all of the energy is being put to waste.

2: Get Stronger.

A lot of people think that by strength training they will bulk up and have less distance, but the opposite is truer. By increasing strength you are also increasing kinesthetic awareness. To illustrate, imagine hitting a 60 yard wedge shot. The difference between you and a PGA pro when it comes to this shot is that he has the kinesthetic awareness to know how far back he needs to go for the ball to go exactly 60 yards. Now imagine this for the driver. If you have increased kinesthetic awareness you will recognize when you have fully completed the backswing and are ready to bring the club down as opposed to just swinging subconsciously.

Tip 3: Hit it on the Sweet Spot Every Time

A third tip that many overlook is that they are not hitting it on the sweet spot every time. Now with today’s technology and all the whole club face may seem like the sweet spot, but there is in fact an area on the clubface where you will get the most distance from, and the farther you hit from it the less distance you will have. The best way to tell is to buy a few of those stickers that you place on the clubface so that it will show exactly where you are hitting the ball. You may be surprised to find out that only hitting a couple of inches off of the sweet spot can lead to a severe decrease in distance.
